ABAC's 14th Annual Mr. ABAC contest was held in the Donaldson Dining Hall Tuesday, Feb. 10.
This years contestants competed to the theme of "Back in the 50'." The event was sponsored by the Family and Consumer Sciences Club (FCS), with all profits going to benefit trips the club will be taking later in the year.
There were 28 contestants all together and after casual and formal wear rounds, the group was narrowed to only six. Samuel McGaughey, George Farmer, Michael Eric Betts, Mack Branch, Davy Whitener and Paul Lovett then took the stage for a round of questions as finalists.
One comic note of the contest was that there were only supposed to be five finalists. Emcee John Baldwin ended up making up a question to ask the "lucky" sixth finalist, Lovett.
Several of the contestants won individual awards. The gentlemen's award went to Farmer, best hair was awarded to Lovett, best eyes to McGaughey, best smile to Tyler Buck, and the congeniality award to Michael Eric Betts.
McGaughey was then crowned Mr. ABAC 2004.
"I'm very thankful for the opportunity to be Mr. ABAC," McGaughey said.
One of the highlights of the event was the auctioning of dates. Fifteen contestants from the contest where auctioned for dates and all the money was a benefit to the FCS. The most bided on contestant was Whitner who brought in $320. There was also a silent auction and an auctioning of hunting packages for the guys in the audience.
Sabor Latino preformed during the intermissions with their 50's inspired music and dance.
Emcees for the program were Dotty Davis and Baldwin, an ABAC alumni. The judges included LaRae Moore, Barbara Grogan, and Miss Tifton Kristine Wagner.
